Marine Discoveries for Grade 7 in 2007-08
| Sunday, September 30 - Tuesday, October 2: It's the adventure of a lifetime! Rising 7th graders have the chance to participate in a unique learning opportunity - a field trip on the Puget Sound! But you will need to act quickly- because you must send in a registration form and a check for $10 to indicate your interest in the program by Friday, June 22. The form is available on the here. Please turn it into Mr. Adolfson by June 22. Our own science teacher, Mr. Adolphson, has teamed with HIMS parent Bruce Williams to organize a 3-day adventure with Salish Sea, a nonprofit organization that offers our kids the chance to be sailors and scientists! Each kid who participates will design and execute a research project in the classroom before the trip. While on board the 61 foot Coast Guard certified ship, the student crew will navigate, hoist sails, and even have a chance to take the helm. Days will be filled with nets, microscopes, sailing, water, and fun. Nights will be on shore, where the crew will camp and relax around a campfire or on board, where the waves will rock you to sleep. Do you think your kid would love a chance to explore Puget Sound's aquatic plants and animals? Work side-by-side with marine scientists? Have fun! The cost is $125/per student - scholarships are available.
