| GEMS may be for you! The Seattle Area chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS-SA) is currently accepting applications for the 2007/2008 Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science (GEMS) program. GEMS is a science enrichment program for 7th and 8th grade girls currently attending a Seattle public school. The goal of the program is to encourage girls to maintain, and broaden their interest in science by providing mentoring, hands-on activities, field trips, and information pertaining to a variety of scientific fields. The program is free to students, but requires transportation to and from all events. Hands-on activities are held the 1st Tuesday of every month at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. (The first meeting will be Tuesday, November 6th.) Applications are due October 17th, 2007. They are available on the AWIS-SA website or by contacting Erica Lerer at (206)356-2503 or via e-mail. | Tuesday, October 30th and Thursday, November 1st at 6:30 pm Something you've been wondering about at HIMS, but you haven't had the chance to ask yet? Ms. Cryan-Leary and Ms. Alvarez are conducting two meetings for parents and others in the HIMS community to provide you with the answers. They will make a short presentation followed by a Q&A session. To be sure to offer a convenient opportunity to families throughout the city, there are two locations for these sessions: the first is on October 30th at Aki Kurose Middle School. On November 1st, they will be at HIMS. Coffee and desserts will provided by the PTSA. If you have any particular issues you would like them to address, please submit them to HIMS parent Mark Miller. They will take questions from the floor at the meeting as well. Labels: event, PTSA, School Events |

| TOMORROW, Thursday, October 4 th at 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. That's right it's curriculum night! Beginning at 6:45 p.m., take this opportunity to get familiar with your kid's school day by running through (and I do mean running through) his or her schedule. The faculty will be on hand to tell you their plans for their classes this year - and who knows - you might even learn a thing or two. The staff has arranged for a cadre of HIMS students to provide childcare from 6:30 to 8:30, so you may bring your school-aged children to HIMS. You can call 206 252-5810 for more information.
