Legislative Roundtable Sponsored by Seattle PTSA at HIMS

Thursday, November 15, 6:30-8:30pm: Come sit down at a table with your district legislators and discuss key education issues! Registration starts at 6:30pm (and a light dinner is available as well) with the program beginning at 7pm including a mix of panel discussions and small groups by legislative districts. Refreshments. Also be sure to mark your calendars for WA State PTA Focus Day, February 13, 2008 (in Olympia). More information to follow.

A special evening for parents and 8th graders with HIMS alumni

Thursday, December 6th: Thinking ahead? If you've got an 8th grader, you'll want to mark your calendar for December 6th. That's HIMS PTSA's annual "Meet the High Schoolers" night. Plan to come hear HIMS alumni talk about their experiences in high school. There's no substitute for touring the schools, but then, touring the schools is no substitute for the "inside story" Bring your 8th grader so that that future HIMS alumnus can start to consider the options as well!

A New State Scholarship Program for Low Income Families

The State of Washington is prepared to offer college scholarships to low income 7th and 8th graders. Families must sign up before June 1, 2008. Click here for details and online applications. Word is that 8th graders are eligible this year, even though the website only refers to 7th graders. Next year the program will probably only include 7th graders.....so this year's 7th graders should take note! Ms. von Walter and Mr. Yeda, Hamilton counselors, have hard copy applications in their offices.

Is your son looking to try a new sport this spring?

How about lacrosse? It is a fast-paced, exciting sport which is growing very quickly in the Northwest. North Seattle Lacrosse offers both a grades 5/6 team and a grades 7/8 team and are looking for new team members. Log on to www.northseattlelax.com to learn more.
